Who holds the people who hold others? A BJGP Life post by Dr Koki Kato

A thoughtful piece by Dr Koki Kato in BJGP Life reflects on the loneliness that can come with caring for patients when, despite our best efforts, little seems to change.

Drawing on years of consultations with a patient whose pain resisted every explanation, Koki explores what it means to keep showing up in the face of uncertainty and helplessness.

Perhaps the burden becomes lighter when we stop carrying these experiences alone. When we share them, uncertainty becomes a shared question - something we can learn from and make sense of together.

A timely reminder of why spaces for generalists to talk, reflect and think together matter so much.
